Places Of Interest

Wiltshire:

THINGS TO SEE AND DO:

Few places in Europe can rival the ancient monuments and ceremonial landscapes of Wiltshire which include the World Heritage sites of Stonehenge and Avebury. Salisbury Cathedral with its soaring spire (404ft) is probably the finest medieval Cathedral in the UK and is another major international attraction. Our historic houses and gardens ensure that there is something to interest everyone.

We also have a huge variety of other attractions including Steam- the museum of the Great Western Railway (Swindon) and the multitude of attractions at Longleat. The Market towns of Salisbury, Devizes, Marlborough and Winchester are close and provide excellent shopping facilties. Stonehenge, Avebury, Wilton House and Longleat House and many National Trust properties such as Dinton (Phillips house) Montacute and Mompesson are on the doorstep.

Stourhead, undoubtedly one of England's finest 18th century landscaped gardens,is but a short drive away. There is outstanding countryside in the immediate vicinity with many hostelries to be found in the Five River valleys leading into Salisbury. There are fine Country Hotels and City accommodation in the area. Salisbury itself has a theatre and many restaurants and an active nightlife.

For something different visit the Caen Hill Locks on the Kennet and Avon canal at Devizes, one of the longest flights in the country. Much of the waterway cuts across Wiltshire passing through delightful towns such as Pewsey (famous for its crop circles) and Bradford upon Avon as well as nudging picturesque quiet villages and hamlets with their thatched cottages, delightful country pubs and tempting tea rooms.

A driving tour around Wiltshire would not be complete without viewing some of the White Horses. They can be seen at Alton Barnes, Westbury, Devizes, Hackpen Hill, Marlborough and Pewsey and the famous Fovant military badges are a mere stones throw from our base.

And beyond:

For the car fanatics Beaulieu (Hampshire)and Haynes (Somerset) motor museums are within the hour in either direction  and Goodwood House with it's famous motor racing circuit is 90 minutes away.

But for the ultimate tour of the are use our Scenic Trails!
